God of War (and natural gas pipelines)

"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a "task that is from God."

Whether one is for or against the Iraq invasion, the above should be an insult to anyone’s intelligence. Furthermore, it is a huge insult to the sacrifice of our military personnel and their families, as well as, the Iraqis who have suffered. Of course, she is not the first to use this propaganda. I don’t know if she really believes it or is just using it as a political tool. Either way, fuck her. Hey you dumb bitch, The Blues Brother were “on a mission from gad”, too.

She is right in the sense that Iraq war is not wrong. And I have to say her statement is not an insult to my intelligence. So you have that wrong as well I'm afraid. War in Iraq is justified.

  2. please explain how it is justified to invade a sovereign country on the basis of lies (WMDs anyone?) and deception (no al-queda link to Hussein). Saddam was a nasty piece of work but Bush's outright fabrication in linking the war to 9/11 was about as big a lie as I can imagine. HE, of course, also is under the delusion that god, that bastard, guided his decision. Why would any sane person trust a man who hears imaginary voices?

Please keep in mind one must first have intelligence for it to be insulted.

  4. "Justify your above comment without using your religion or a single word about a god. Are you capable of that?"

Nonmagic you have just asked me to do something that is impossible for me as a christian to do. All reasons that justify
Iraq war are because of God. In fact everything I say, do or think must come from the word of God.

  5. Jean,

Thank you once again for demonstrating that you are incapable of independent, rational thought. If you think your god justifies the Iraq war then there is most likely nothing that you couldn't justify using your god as a crutch the way you do. Congratulations on your stupidity.

  6. Jean,

How do you know what God thinks about the Iraq war?

  7. Sometimes going to war is the most charitable thing to do. The whole issue of invading Iraq has been challanging, no one promised it was gonna be easy or a bed of roses. That will not be realistic. War is never nice, its horrible.

As to no evidence of WMD's and no link to Hussein and Al-Queda, that does not mean going to war was not justified. They had to do what they had to do, and I think solders in Iraq are there for a good cause (there are actually christians serving in the army and they are doing it as unto the Lord not for men). The whole thing gets a bad press, no doubt you contribute to it.Maybe we need to go back to the Bible and see what the Bible actually says. In the Old Testament God tells Israel to go to war against Amalek, tells Saul to go in there and destroy the Amalekites because they were a blight on humanity. God told the children of Israel to go into the land, destroy the Canaanites. The Canaanites used to bury a living baby in a jar in a wall when they built a house or a building as a offering to the gods. There are wars of protection. There are wars of just retribution and just punishment and then there are wars of evil aggression.
As a Zimbabwean I understand there is already civil war there, evil war caused by a wicked Mugabe. If another country invades in order to bring peace, there is nothing wrong with that. I would rather that hapens in Zimbabwe right now. Even though more people may die as a result, but that wont be the intention of the invasion. It will be a just war bibically.

Really? No one promised that? Are you sure?

    * Feb. 7, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, to U.S. troops in Aviano, Italy: "It is unknowable how long that conflict will last. It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months."

    * March 4, Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at a breakfast with reporters: "What you'd like to do is have it be a short, short conflict. . . . Iraq is much weaker than they were back in the '90s," when its forces were routed from Kuwait.

    * March 11, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, in a speech to the Veterans of Foreign Wars: "The Iraqi people understand what this crisis is about. Like the people of France in the 1940s, they view us as their hoped-for liberator."

    * March 16, Vice President Cheney, on NBC's Meet the Press: "I think things have gotten so bad inside Iraq, from the standpoint of the Iraqi people, my belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators. . . . I think it will go relatively quickly, . . . (in) weeks rather than months." He predicted that regular Iraqi soldiers would not "put up such a struggle" and that even "significant elements of the Republican Guard . . . are likely to step aside."

  10. Jean,

Your entire post is very frightening.

There were 2 reasons for going to war with Iraq and neither of them turn out to have any merit and you state that does not mean the war is not justified?

So now it is okay because "God" said so? That is terribly horrifying.

When people utilize language like Palin (and you) saying that the war is God's will or ordained by God, you are playing right into the hands of the other religous nutters who are calling it a holy war or another crusade.

    Jeez I hope Obama wins....

A war of evil aggression would fit nicely. As for justifying the war, any war, by referencing biblical quotes, I think that aside from being ludicrous, it is a slippery slope. While you justify the war as being appropriate biblically speaking, crazy islamic terrorists justify their fatwas the same way, by referencing an outdated book of fairy tales.

Apparently, real evidence takes a back seat to the ambiguous scribblings of a primitive bronze age culture.

    so very sad, yet unsurprising.

Again you are a Useful Idiot. The Us did not invade Iraq for the benefit of the Iraqis. The invasion was to further their neo-con agenda. Governments act out of self-interest, not altruism.
Nobody's bringing peace to Sudan or Zimbabwee, no matter how much your god is itching for another war...there's nothing in it for US.

  14. Palin is the stand in for Mike Huckabee, and he went down the tubes.

Throwing out common sense and invoking some supernaturaql deity as an excuse for going to war is some scary shit, let me tell you, and totally unacceptable.

People that make decisions on that delusional thinking will get us all killed.

It's no wonder that the right wing fundamentalists are losing influence. Mainstream America doesn't want to hear this kind of shit any more. That's why Huckabee bit the dust.

  15. Regardless of whether the war in Iraq is justified, why should I believe that it's a mission from God?

Not that I don't believe God to be beyond such things. He definitely used wars and such to do his work in Old testament, and prophesied them in the NT.
