A Prize for the Winner?

I was thinking about the last post by Maragon. Do you think it would be possible to offer an actual prize to the most outrageous fundamentalist? Is there some way we can all donate maybe a dollar or two and buy a gift certificate online or something? Maybe if we are really cheap, maybe just a certificate, or a sticker.

I really want to express my gratitude for all the work they do on a daily basis, that keeps me amused. (No sarcasm here, I'm being honest). I'm sure you all feel the same way. It really is better than TV.

So what do you think? Is it possible? Do you have any ideas? I'm not looking for nominees just yet, just prize ideas.

  1. This is off topic but Ray-related. This post about how Ray Comfort named a guy's handgun a PH.D scared the hell outta me.

I don't know what's scarier: handguns in the hands of Ray Comfort devotees (who basically harass people on the street) or the fact that Ray gives names to weapons.

  2. So, let me get this straight...

Some former law enforcement officer is loser enough to be Ray's 'security' and stupid enough to post the codeword Ray uses for the guys gun on the fucking internet for the whole world to see ????

Way to go Mr. Lawman !! You can't even keep the name of your damn gun a secret because you want to blab your bravado on the net and anyone is supposed to think you are competent enough to work security for a person who goes into public and puts themselves in the spotlight with unpopular beliefs?

  3. Nafa, I'd pitch in 50 cents towards buying one of them a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

  4. How about this:

    The Ignorance Offset Award

Once a month, for the silliest fundy comment, we'll re-establish the balance of
intelligence in the universe by each privately donating whatever we're
    individually comfortable with to
    Donors Choose.

It's a great program that accepts donations of any size and then pulls the money
together to give public school teachers the money they need for classroom
activities. You even get to pick which project you'd like to help fund.

For instance, you can choose to have your donation go specifically a project
    like this--teaching
evolution to high school students in a high poverty area
    .

    What do you think?

  5. Geoff !! This is great !! I mean, I like the idea of doing it for the silliest fundy comment, but I also just love the program.

I also love that I will get to donate money to teach evolution because a fundy made a stupid comment! The irony is delicious.

  6. Also, I encourage every one to go here:

There are cool videos of researchers talking about the work they do, and if you vote for your favorite, a dollar will automatically be donated to Donors Choose.

  7. How would we decide the winner?? A poll on the sidebar ???

  8. Public school teachers? Hey, you could just send the money to me! I promise I won't use it on beer. Or comics. Shakespeare? Maybe.

Nah, I like the idea of supporting evolution education. I'm a big fan of irony as well.

  9. Lance, you should spend it on getting Kirsti that new DSLR ! ;)

  10. Yeah,
We could have a poll on the sidebar.

But I was thinking more along the lines of rewarding the fundie themselves, not science teachers. This will encourage them to get even more zany and creative.
