Stupidity Laid Bare

In his latest post, Ray helpfully makes his core misunderstanding of evolution plain to see:

http://raycomfortfood.blogspot.com/2008/08/species-to-species-definition.html

Is he truly incapable of understanding that evolutionary theory doesn't predict that one creature turns into another type of creature in the middle of its lifetime?

I suggest pouncing on this one. Ray so often tiptoes around what he says, making it hard to pin down his mistakes. This may be an opportunity to do so.

  1. So help me, I broke the strike just this once.

  2. Ray isn't incapable of understanding, but he is very capable of baiting. This is a prime example.

He said a few months ago that his ministry was lacking in funds and was begging for donations. Garbage posts like he has up today are a good way to spark controversy. If he can get enough atheists over there to debate, that might mean more xians will come to see what all the fuss is and his defenders just might buy more of his books, dvds, ect. It's about money and ego for him, I think.

  3. Two hours after posting this tripe, Ray has twenty wonderful comments from nonbelievers plus an equally wonderful one from Kaitlyn (who may be a nonbeliever but I'm not sure yet; not that it really matters anyway). If he's trying to attract many better writers than himself, he's succeeding in spades.

Despite this post, I'm now convinced that Ray KNOWS he's lying. And I'm also convinced that he won't change.

He's preaching to a choir of people who have been taught - some in school, many via radio and homeschool - that the ToE makes claims which in fact it does not make, e.g. this species-to-species transitional strawman. There are actually two Theories of Evolution: the real one, and this ersatz version which too many people think is the real thing because they've never heard different. It's pathetically sad and completely maddening to see the results of this deliberate miseducation.

And of course Ray is baiting the nonbelievers. They're all much better writers than he.

  4. Thanks WeeMaryAnne.

Yes, I'm an unbeliever. Ray made a follow up regarding some science fiction about what future creatures might look like. Anyway, my latest reply is anything but well-written. I tried repeating "common ancestor" as many times as I could so hopefully it'll sink in.

It won't. He's not an objective critic of evolutionary theory.

  5. Even though I occasionally post over there, or try to, I wish those newer folks over at AC would give it a rest for awhile at least. Especially Steven J and Dimensio, Chris from OZ and some others. I want to see what Ray Comfort's blog is like without any non-believers posting there.

  6. Two evolution posts in one day. Ray is being a master baiter yet again.

  7. Well, he just let through my comments. I doubt his followers will say anything despite Ray now puts humans, chimps and bonobos into the same species. (I said this over there.)

Wow, just wow. And I bet he keeps selling lots of DVDs.

I think Charles is quite right, those with half a bran have departed leaving only those immune to reason.

    G.E.

  8. Personally I think Ray is first and foremost a business man and I think his business is the first thing that comes to his mind when he evaluates evidence.

I really hate telling people what to do, but I would also like to see what one of Ray's evolution posts would look like if no people who accepted evolution commented.

  9. Oh, I would never tell anyone not to post there. Nothing like that. I just strongly suggest it. On pain of death.

  10. LOL! Pain of death in some kind of afterlife maybe?

  11. I am curious; is it of any significance that Mr. Comfort has acknowledged my posting, even in a fashion that demonstrates his fundamental ignorance of biology?

  12. dimensio,

Yes, you are now the answer to a trivia question.

dimensio -> Ray Comfort -> Kirk Cameron -> John Goodman -> Kevin Bacon

  13. As bedtime approaches, Ray's supremely stupid post now has 51 comments, running six-to-one in favor of the nonbelievers. The best the bleevers have managed so far is "Humans ain't animals." Get_Education, Steven J, Kaitlyn and Dimensio are all acquitting themselves magnificently, and Shaggy ain't no slouch neither.

(happy sigh) And so to bed, sweet dreams assured.

Unlike Ray we don't censor our comments, so as long as it's on topic and not spam, fire away.
