Pot, meet Kettle

Ray's latest:

The Call of Discovery

The Discovery Channel called recently, wanting an interview about the prophecies of Nostradamus. I doubt if they will quote me. I told them that Nostradamus was a thief and a liar. I have documented evidence that he read his Bible in secret, and ripped off its prophecies. If you read his predictions carefully, you will find that there are certain words he uses such as earthquakes, a thousand year reign, anti-Christ, etc. He merely took biblical truth and claimed it as his own. Then he mixed these up with nebulous ramblings, and so anyone who is ignorant of biblical prophecy will be impressed with Nostradamus.

And many are impressed; so much so that he has become a multi-million industry.

I'm back, sorry. I pissed myself laughing and had to clean up. Where do I begin? With The Discovery Channel doing a show on Nostradamus (I liked Paul Mooney's version on the Chappelle show better)? But TDC did a show on the James Ossuary and that was proven a fake/forgery. TDC for calling Ray Comfort? Well, they're doing a show on a nutcase of the past, why not call a nutcase of today? I long to see Ray's documented evidence. The Bible rips off its own prophecies again and again. Anyone who is ignorant, in general, will be impressed with Ray Comfort; and many are. And do I need to mention the "multi-million" industry part?

Thanks again, Ray.

  1. I hope it was Myth Busters who called him because they're working on an episode about religion.

    Highest rated episode....ever!

  2. Quasar,

I already responded to Ray, twice in fact, addressing the muti-million dollar part, but I'm betting he won't allow it.

He's been censoring almost everything that's said about his finances lately. But yes, you definitely busted his balls on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Oh yeah, he always censors anything about his finances, ever since the Piety of Ray post by... sorry can't remember now... Dave? But anyway, yeah, he doesn't like to talk about that.

The Mythbusters doing religion? Oh my, I love those guys. I hope they are just as thorough with religion as with everything else.

  4. I'm sorry Froggie, what?

  5. And yeah, I wanna see Adam and Jamie trying to turn water into wine, sticks into snakes, and trying to reanimate cult leaders (they could probably use themselves for that last one).

  6. "The Discovery Channel called me...."
"I rushed into pre-op to stop an brain transplant...."
"I sat next to the President / the Pope / the Queen of England on a plane...."

IMHO: When uttered by Ray, these are all equally credible statements.

  7. I am calling BS again on 'The Discovery Channel' calling him... DC don't make their own programmes - they are almost exclusively made by third party production companies.

So, splitting hairs, if anyone called, it was probably a company working under commission from the DC.

  8. Psshh...

It was probably the Discovery Institute.

But, why would they ask about Nostradamus...?

Oh wait, maybe Ray made this up too.

The only thing listed about Nostradamus is Ray's own show.

    Interesting..... :)

  10. Also the only listing I can find for a show on Nostradamus by the Discovery Channel is this.

    Decoding Nostradamus

    Premiere Date:September 09, 2007

Description:Legend surrounds the 14th-century apothecary and his prophecies.

  11. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on Ray- but he's only trying to show you the truth. Whether you choose to believe God's existence or not will not excuse you from his judgement when your time here is up. We are all guilty of breaking the Law, and by this Law we will be judged. I'd hate for you not to come to God because of your personal opinions on Ray.

  12. Katie7, if your imaginary friend exists then presumably it knows where we all live and it could come to us anytime it chooses.

So -- why hasn't it come to any of us?

(Including you, come to think of it.)

    ReplyDelete
  13. WeeMaryanne,
By imaginary friend do you mean God? Of course He knows where we live,He gave us our lives and all the good that's in them. He is always here, some just choose to ignore Him. Don't you ever feel that "tug" at your heart? What do you think that is? All you have to do is call on Him and He is with you, but that's the beauty of free will, you can choose not to.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Katie7,

I'm 46 and if I should ever feel a "tug at my heart," I would call an ambulance, as my late mother had her first heart attack in her mid-fifties and heart trouble runs in the family.

As for "free will," how can free will coexist with an omnipotent and all-encompassing being? If such a being exists then there can be no freedom of any kind.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hi WeeMaryanne,
I'm sorry about your mother- I just lost my dad last year to a massive heart attack. Unfortunately we never know how much longer we may be here which is why is so important to trust in God while you can and know that you will one day be in Heaven.
I don't understand why you believe that just because God knows what is going on that you don't have the freedom to make your own choices- he does and obviously you've chosen against Him- that demonstrates perfectly my point on free will. You cannot MAKE someone love you- then it wouldn't be love. I hope you understand where I am coming from.

  16. Katie7,

Back up. I don't think "God knows what's going on." I don't think there's any such thing as a god.

I know you believe in a god and you believe certain specific things about it. So, what exactly do you believe, why do you believe it, and why do you think I should believe it?

    ReplyDelete
  17. WeeMaryanne,
I don't think we got here just by "chance". I know that everything that is created has a creator.
I do have specific beliefs that I hold, do you have any examples of what kinds of things you'd like to hear my beliefs on?
May I ask a couple of yours?
How do you think we've come about? Who do you thank for the good in your life? Anyone?
What do you think happens when you die?
I hope we get to chat more soon Maryanne- I can also give you my email address if you'd like to talk more through that? Have a good day

    ReplyDelete
  18. Katie7,

    I asked:
    What do you believe?
    Why do you believe it?
Why do you think I should believe it?

You opined that you don't think we got here by chance; fair enough, but that's not really an answer to any of my questions.

I'll give you another chance to answer the questions I asked. In the meantime, I'll answer just one of yours:

When I die, nothing happens. My physical remains will decompose and eventually revert to their constituent atoms; my personality will be gone when my brain ceases to function. End. Finito.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi Maryanne,
I appreciate you answering one of my questions, but I have to wonder-if you feel that when we die we just disappear, then what hope do we have?
As far as my beliefs, I'll try to answer as what I think you are wanting, but if you want more, just let me know. And I'll warn, this may get a little long.
    A) I know there is a God- its not a belief, its a fact. An example would be when a mother tells a child that a stove is hot and not to touch it, the child will probably believe that- but if the child reaches out and touches the stove, they go from believing to it's hot to KNOWING that the stove is hot. I don't just believe God exists, I know it.
B)I know that the Bible is what it says it is: The Authorative Word of God. There is so much evidence and so many proofs to back my claim. It has stood the test of time, it's unique in its circulation, in its survival, in its translation and it has withstood all attacks that have tried to disprove it. Not to mention hundreds of prophesies that were proven true, scientific facts that we've only recently recogized that were recorded thousands of years ago, the proof is astounding!
C)I know that there is a Heaven and a Hell and no matter what we may believe, we will all end up in one or the other. Just because you say you don't believe in them doesn't mean that you one day won't wind up in one of these places. Just because I say I don't believe in gravity doesn't mean that if I jump off a building I won't fall to the ground and be seriously injured or killed.
D)I know that I've broken the 10 Commandments and that I am a sinner, and because of this, I should perish. BUT, I trust in Jesus Christ, that he died for my sins so that I could be seen as sinless on Judgement Day. It is because of this that I know when my time is up here that I will be in Heaven.
Whew! Need a break after reading all this uh?? :)
So as for my questions earlier- How do you think we got here?
And do you thank anyone for the good in your life?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Katie7,

You're still not answering the questions I ask. I didn't ask what you know and I certainly didn't ask for assertions of knowledge without any evidence provided to support the claims. I asked, and I won't ask again:

    What do you believe?
    Why do you believe it?
Why do you think I should believe it?

    --------------
On the other topic you touched on:

Dying is unavoidable. I don't hope not to die. That would be unrealistic. I don't hope that after I die I won't be dead. That would be silly. I don't hope to survive while everything else dies. That would be breathtakingly vain. And I don't hope to live forever. That would be torture.

I hope to live as well as possible for as long as possible, and that others may do the same.

  21. Maryanne,
I've explained to you my religious views,I've moved out of the realm of belief to the realm of knowledge. I know there is a God- I trust and believe Him. The reason I know this to be true is through personal experience and testimony of the Bible and I want you to know the Truth as well because whether or not you believe in Heaven or Hell will not hold water on Judgement Day. If you want anything more specific than what I've given you, I'll need you to make your questions more concise
As far as proof, here are some examples of the scientific facts I was talking about in my earlier post:

    1. Only in recent years has science discovered that everything we see is composed of invisible atoms. Scripture tells us that the "things which are seen were not made of things which do appear."

    2. Medical science has only recently discovered that blood-clotting in a newborn reaches its peak on the eighth day, then drops. The Bible consistently says that a baby must be circumcised on the eighth day.

    3. At a time when it was believed that the earth sat on a large animal or a giant (1500 B.C.), the Bible spoke of the earth’s free float in space: "He...hangs the earth upon nothing" (Job 26:7).

    4. The prophet Isaiah also tells us that the earth is round: "It is he that sits upon the circle of the earth" (Isaiah 40:22). This is not a reference to a flat disk, as some skeptic maintain, but to a sphere. Secular man discovered this 2,400 years later. At a time when science believed that the earth was flat, is was the Scriptures that inspired Christopher Columbus to sail around the world (see Proverbs 3:6 footnote).

    5. God told Job in 1500 B.C.: "Can you send lightnings, that they may go, and say to you, Here we are?" (Job 38:35). The Bible here is making what appears to be a scientifically ludicrous statement—that light can be sent, and then manifest itself in speech. But did you know that radio waves travel at the speed of light? This is why you can have instantaneous wireless communication with someone on the other side of the earth. Science didn’t discover this until 1864 when "British scientist James Clerk Maxwell suggested that electricity and light waves were two forms of the same thing" (Modern Century Illustrated Encyclopedia).

    6. Job 38:19 asks, "Where is the way where light dwells?" Modern man has only recently discovered that light (electromagnetic radiation) has a "way," traveling at 186,000 miles per second.

    7. Science has discovered that stars emit radio waves, which are received on earth as a high pitch. God mentioned this in Job 38:7: "When the morning stars sang together..."

    8. "Most cosmologists (scientists who study the structures and evolution of the universe) agree that the Genesis account of creation, in imagining an initial void, may be uncannily close to the truth" (Time, Dec. 1976).

    9. Solomon described a "cycle" of air currents two thousand years before scientists "discovered" them. "The wind goes toward the south, and turns about unto the north; it whirls about continually, and the wind returns again according to his circuits" (Ecclesiastes 1:6).

    10. Science expresses the universe in five terms: time, space, matter, power, and motion. Genesis 1:1,2 revealed such truths to the Hebrews in 1450 B.C.: "In the beginning [time] God created [power] the heaven [space] and the earth [matter] . . . And the Spirit of God moved [motion] upon the face of the waters." The first thing God tells man is that He controls of all aspects of the universe.

    11. The great biological truth concerning the importance of blood in our body’s mechanism has been fully comprehended only in recent years. Up until 120 years ago, sick people were "bled," and many died because of the practice. If you lose your blood, you lose your life. Yet Leviticus 17:11, written 3,000 years ago, declared that blood is the source of life: "For the life of the flesh is in the blood."

    12. All things were made by Him (see John 1:3), including dinosaurs. Why then did the dinosaur disappear? The answer may be in Job 40:15–24. In this passage, God speaks about a great creature called "behemoth." Some commentators think this was a hippopotamus. However, the hippo’s tail isn’t like a large tree, but a small twig. Following are the characteristics of this huge animal: It was the largest of all the creatures God made; was plant-eating (herbivorous); had its strength in its hips and a tail like a large tree. It had very strong bones, lived among the trees, drank massive amounts of water, and was not disturbed by a raging river. He appears impervious to attack because his nose could pierce through snares, but Scripture says, "He that made him can make his sword to approach unto him." In other words, God caused this, the largest of all the creatures He had made, to become extinct.

    13. Encyclopedia Britannica documents that in 1845, a young doctor in Vienna named Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis was horrified at the terrible death rate of women who gave birth in hospitals. As many as 30 percent died after giving birth. Semmelweis noted that doctors would examine the bodies of patients who died, then, without washing their hands, go straight to the next ward and examine expectant mothers. This was their normal practice, because the presence of microscopic diseases was unknown. Semmelweis insisted that doctors wash their hands before examinations, and the death rate immediately dropped to 2 percent. Look at the specific instructions God gave His people for when they encounter disease: "And when he that has an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself even days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean" (Leviticus 15:13). Until recent years, doctors washed their hands in a bowl of water, leaving invisible germs on their hands. However, the Bible says specifically to wash hands under "running water."

    14. Luke 17:34–36 says the Second Coming of Jesus Christ will occur while some are asleep at night and others are working at daytime activities in the field. This is a clear indication of a revolving earth, with day and night at the same time.

    15. "During the devastating Black Death of the fourteenth century, patients who were sick or dead were kept in the same rooms as the rest of the family. People often wondered why the disease was affecting so many people at one time. They attributed these epidemics to ‘bad air’ or ‘evil spirits.’ However, careful attention to the medical commands of God as revealed in Leviticus would have saved untold millions of lives. Arturo Castiglione wrote about the overwhelming importance of this biblical medical law: ‘The laws against leprosyin Leviticus 13 may be regarded as the first model of sanitary legislation’ (A History of Medicine)." Grant R. Jeffery, The Signature of God With all these truths revealed in Scripture, how could a thinking person deny that the Bible is supernatural in origin? There is no other book in any of the world’s religions (Vedas, Bhagavad-Gita, Koran, Book of Mormon, etc.) that contains scientific truth. In fact, they contain statements that are clearly unscientific. Hank Hanegraaff said, "Faith in Christ is not some blind leap into a dark chasm, but a faith based on established evidence." (11:3 continued)

    Fulfilled Prophecies in the Bible:
Prophecies from the Old and New Testaments that have been fulfilled also add credibility to the Bible. The Scriptures predicted the rise and fall of great empires like Greece and Rome (Daniel 2:39, 40), and foretold the destruction of cities like Tyre and Sidon (Isaiah 23). Tyre’s demise is recorded by ancient historians, who tell how Alexander the Great lay siege to the city for seven months. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon had failed in a 13-year attempt to capture the seacoast city and completely destroy its inhabitants. During the siege of 573 B.C., much of the population of Tyre moved to its new island home approximately half a mile from the land city. Here it remained surrounded by walls as high as 150 feet until judgment fell in 332 B.C. with the arrival of Alexander the Great. In the seven-month siege, he fulfilled the remainder of the prophecies (Zechariah 9:4; Ezekiel 26:12) concerning the city at sea by completely destroying Tyre, killing 8,000 of its inhabitants and selling 30,000 of its population into slavery. To reach the island, he scraped up the dust and rubble of the old land city of Tyre, just like the Bible predicted, and cast them into the sea, building a 200-footwide causeway out to the island. Alexander’s death and the murder of his two sons was also foretold in the Scripture. Another startling prophecy was Jesus’ detailed prediction of Jerusalem’s destruction, and the further spreading of the Jewish diaspora throughout the world, which is recorded in Luke 21. In A.D. 70, not only was Jerusalem destroyed by Titus, the future emperor of Rome, but another prediction of Jesus Christ in Matthew 24:1,2 came to pass—the complete destruction of the temple of God.

And lastly, why wouldn't you want to live forever? Especially in Paradise? I feel bad for you, having a death wish.
Now, I've answered your questions, onto your beliefs...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Katie7, three points:

    1) Using "know" and "believe" interchangeably is dishonest. And claiming the Bible is a scientific text is idiotic.

    2) Equating "expect to die like every other living thing" with "having a death wish" tells me that you're too stupid to converse with.

    3) We're done.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Maryanne,
I am sorry that feel the way you do, but I will continue to pray for you nonetheless and hope you find happiness and truth. (This is not meant condencendingly, so don't take it that way)
I'm not sure where you think I've used belief and knowledge interchangeably, but I've been honest on all you've asked. Its your choice to take or leave what I have to say, but I have not resorting to name calling (stupid, liar, idiot), so I'd appreciate you not personally attacking me.
As far as the scienfic evidence- did I not provide more than enough evidence for you? That's what you asked for, then you call me stupid for showing you. Your demands are too broad and confusing and I believe written in a way so that you can't be pleasd with an answer (I have kept repeating this in all my posts regarding your questions). Also, you avoid answering anything that you believe- so I am weary of that. So, maybe parting is the best. Again, I will continue to wish the best and maybe one day you can find what you are looking for.
    God Bless,
    Katie
