Stars Falling

You either need to be a complete moron, or a Christian to believe that the stars could fall.

I just did this small calculation on paper to share it with you.
I just calculated how fast Alpha Centauri would have be to move by 5° per minute on the sky.
That's far from 'falling' but still does not come out quite well for Ray.

200,000 times faster than the speed of light.

The stars will never fall!

  1. Nice and simple math. Did you post your result over at AC? I wonder how they will react.
    Probably not at all...

  2. Math doesn't count if you have faith. If Jesus had said two plus two equals five, well, two plus two would equal five. Now and forever, hallelujah.

  3. Well, strangly Jesus never said a single word about science as far as I know.
Maybe his followers should just follow his example there...

  4. Imagine if Jesus had spoken of science, with what his knowledge would have been at the time? I imagine the Dark Ages would have lasted much longer. We probably wouldn't have reached the Renaissance yet, let alone the Enlightenment.

I used this when I still was kind of a liberal believer. When someone approached me and wanted to tell me that Genesis speaks about science...

Just imagine just half of what we know today about science would be true and God would have inspired someone in the Bronze Age to write this down.
The first 10000 pages of the bible would be a very dry disquisition on physics, quantum physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy and mathematics. I don't think that they would have treated someone who would have written such woozy stuff and wasted tons of papyrus for it very nicely.
