Well, I guess the strike is over.

I have to admit that I recently broke down and posted there myself. What is it people say when they quit smoking? Lapses happen, you have to forgive yourself and move on -- because I, personally, won't be posting there any more. I wish you guys were with me on this.

I ask myself this, in retrospect: what's so important to me that Ray acknowledges what I have to say? Of course I have this recurring fantasy that something I say actually gets through to him, and suddenly he's willing to listen, and we can have an intelligent conversation, and finally I bring him around to reason.

But I know full well that it's just that: a fantasy. Ray makes a living doing this -- he's too old to find a new career, and if he admits he's wrong then he loses the old one (and his tax documents make it clear that running a Christian non-profit can be quite profitable!), not to mention his reputation with so many people and the chance to be on TV. So of course he's not going to come around, no matter what I or anyone says.

So I'll simply speak my piece here, and at my home blog, where at least my words, like my thoughts, are free. I really encourage you guys to join me.

  1. SD,

I haven't been paying much attention to who is posting at Ray's. I sneak in once in a while looking for Camport, Vera, Joshua Black, and pick on only them, specifically just for some fun, and I can depend on them to make the most ignorant statements. That's not even that much fun anymore.

Since I'm weaned off there, I see many more right behind us over there carrying the message of logic, but they aren't making anymore ground than we did. It has become a waste of time, especially because I am convinced that most of those people are so ignorant that even if they read you comments, they can't understand them and are too lazy to do any research. I peeked in there last night and the first thing I see is someone saying, "I didn't come from no monkey!" I damn near threw my laptop through the window.

I also think that you are finding out that cognitive dissonance is pervasive and chronic in nature.

After thirty years of running into this wall I have come up with what I consider to be a valid truth, but I will refer to it as dale's paradox. It states that:

"If someone has a belief in supernatural goings ons, and especially those that were culturally contitioned to it as a child, if they cannot see that their belief is irrational on their own volition, there is no way in hell that you or I are going to convince them otherwise."

The best we can do is when someone has already realized how silly these teachings are, is to just validate their choice.

    See ya, /d

  2. I see Rex Mundane is fucking with Ray.
I'm gonna join in on this.
If you get the joke you get to be part of it.

  3. Dave.

I agree with you. I recently came to the conclusion that it's best not to feed the fundie. A month without rational posts will basically put Ray back to where he was a year ago.

I'm finished posting there. I will still check it out for a laugh. But I will post my replies here.

Ray's not too bright, but he's no idiot. He knows what he's doing. Without opposing comments his blog quickly die and the end up a nice little Fundie circle jerk. Maybe that will also force the few remaining crazies to start posting over here.

Heck... Maybe Ray will have to come over here to be heard.

I don't know. But I'm not posting there anymore.

Unlike Ray we don't censor our comments, so as long as it's on topic and not spam, fire away.
