Welcome, Jean Gasho-Musuka and Brittany!

Welcome to the blog, ladies!

Let me say that I admire you both for braving the muck and the mire and just wading into our discussions as you have. Most of the other Christians on Ray's blog won't come over and have an actual discussion with us 'cause they're put off by our profanity. (Ooooooo, profanity....)

But you know what? I think that's just an excuse. I mean, think about it--

Ray's trying to train all his fans to go out there and hit the
streets and become fearless preachers of the gospel. Do you really think there won't be profanity on the street?

If anything, our blog would act as a training aid. But still
they stay away.

They say they won't come over and talk to us because they're offended.

I think they don't come over 'cause they ain't got the ingredients.

  1. Have to say thank you for showing some kindness, something I was beginning to think doesnt exist on this blog. Really appreciated....

  2. I also add my welcome to Jean especially (I don't know if Brittany is still active here?). Needless to say, I can't agree with your position -- nor can I join Captain Howdy in admiring your bravery, I'm afraid, as I think courage shown for a foolish cause is itself folly. Nonetheless I'm glad you're here, as you lessen the danger of the Raytractors' site becoming just another echo chamber on the internet.

  3. Actually, looking at the comments in my last post, I do see that Brittany is still active here. So an especial welcome to her as well. :)

  4. Jean,
if I pumped the idea that there were flying pink elephents in space to you on a daily basis (without proof), wouldn't you eventually become frustrated by this? You'd eventually tell me to bug off.

Then what if I said, "well Jean, the burden of proof is on you to prove me wrong." You'd find that equally rediculous would you not.

I think that's what you're seeing manifested here. You're insisting upon something you can offer no proof for. All you've offered thus far is Pascal's Wager, and that's hardly a proof.

  5. Jean, you'll find that most of us are kind, but we tend to argue with a lot of passion, which might be mistaken for unkindness, I suppose.

  6. captain howdy,

I myself do not like profanity. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that I have never cussed before, I am only trying to say that I find that who I spend my time with and who I'm around is partially who I become. So if I spend all of my time around someone who uses profanity and other degrading remarks then in a since I start doing and saying the same things that they do. I do not like any thing that is evil. I do not like the type of person I become when I use degrading remarks and profanity. So you see we Christians have to be especially careful of who we surround ourselves with.

    In Christian Love,
    Brittany

Hi--and again, I salute yer moxie for paying us godless heathens a visit.

I guess the main thing I was trying to say is that if you feel you can't deal with profanity, it's probably not wise to do a lot of street preaching, and since Ray is trying to gird yer loins for that very task, you might be wasting your time on Ray's blog.

Well, I think you are right in what you are saying. I have to agree.
I do street witnessing and all that so I think what you are saying makes so much sense....

cant speak for Ray though, but I think this can be a good fishing spot...to some degree

  10. Hello? Hello? Coming over to this blog, I feel a bit like I'm walking down a long hall with a lot of doors, and at any moment, someone sinister is going to jump out at me. LOL, no I don't! I'm glad to be here - just wanted to make a comment about vulgar language. Then I'll continue reading and post if I can't resist....

You are correct when you say that going out on to the streets will expose me to vulgarity/profanity. However, I typically have my young children with me and when groups of people (typically teenagers, and college-age men, but an increasing amount of young women) are spouting the "Effenheimer" every third word, it gets to be too much. I simply walk over, remind them that there are children present and to please watch their language. They are typically contrite and mumble an "I'm sorry", and the problem is solved. Hey, they all have/had a mother - you gonna talk back to a mom????

I used to have a potty mouth, B.C. It was a lot easier than actually having to think of something intelligent in its place, and it always got a reaction. Amazing how words have power, isn't it? Lance, as an English teacher, you know that well.

Anyway, just wanted to say "HI" and thank you all for the spicy debates over at Ray's place. Much love, F.G.

  11. By the way, Captain, I'm a little hurt at the tag on this posting. "Poultry?" Really? I don't think that chickens have lower lips that can be stuck out in a pout like mine is right now. >>sniffle<< Just kidding, I have thicker skin than that - hopefully walrus thick, to be here!!!!!

  12. I'm a Christian, and cursing is one of my spiritual gifts, along with drinking fine beers.

The idea that any combination of letters or characters can be inherently evil or "dirty" makes absolutely no sense to me. We might as well decide that there are certain numbers that children aren't allowed to say.

There is a big difference between saying, "Lobsters don't give a fuck" and "Fuck you" or "I hate you" or "You cause nothing but trouble". The first one is funny (you had to be there). The other three are evil and dirty.

Also, to paraphrase Inherit The Wind: language is a poor enough form of communication as it is! We need to use all the words we've got!

  13. How sad that Brittany is so easily influenced by others. Not the least bit surprising, but sad nontheless.
