Theists: "Atheists hate God"

I am so sick of this one. This piece of intellectual flotsam, or one of its derivatives ("You're angry with God", "You're rebellious against God", "You think you're wiser than God", "You think you're more righteous than God", "You mock God", etc., etc., etc., ad nauseum) surfaces with monotonous regularity. Probably one out of every four posts made by theists contain some derivative of this basic theme.

Today, I received a reply from "Scott" that took this crap to a whole new level. I just had to share this one with the class:

How many of the "fundies" (as you call us) do you think were raised with this world-view ? I'd venture to say very few. I, for one, was not.

In fact, I was raised to hate the name of Jesus and to lean on my own understanding to guide me into whatever "spiritual truth" I could dream up. Actually, the only reason I came to recognize Jesus (Y'shua, in Hebrew) as the Messiah of my people is because I tried to prove born again Christians wrong about two things: the Bible and who Jesus is.

If only you could put aside your preconceived notions and hatred for the same things I once hated. Perhaps, then you'd recognize this is no game.

Sadly, the only way this will happen is for you to put down your walls of pride in order to be humbled by the One you mock.

Anyone else blurt out "BULLSHIT!!!" the moment they read "In fact, I was raised to hate the name of Jesus"? Hands?

That's right..."Scott" was raised to hate the name of Jesus. Apparently, they had a picture of the Son of God taped to the heavy bag, and each member gave Him a good gut-punching every night, after which they wound down by drinking baby's blood and chanting the praises of Satan.

You'd think that theists would be better liars, what with all the practice they get.

Gott Mit Uns

Nosilia666-I mean nosilia999 went off on a rant implying atheists have killed more than any religious believer. It was really long so I won't repeat it here, but it's under Ray's "A Letter From an Atheist". One of the biggest (killed the most people) horrors (s)he listed as atheistic was Nazi Germany. I think a great number of his/her claims could be refuted but this one stood out at me because even with my layman's knowledge of history, I knew it was bullshit. One of Hitler's slogans on Nazi paraphernalia was "gott mit uns" or "god with us", atheist indeed. I found a good article regarding Hitler's beliefs. According to the article, Hitler was a Roman Catholic, became an alter boy, and was even named a "solider of Christ" at his church. Interestingly enough, the church's doctrine included hate propaganda against the Jewish people. This could have been an inspiration for Hitler when he wrote in Mein Kampf "I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of out Creator. By fighting off the Jews. I am doing the Lord's work. " He never left the church and the church never condemned him.

My point in all this is to refute nosilia999 by showing there are both good and bad people in every faith or lack thereof and it's sickening to watch someone try and twist history in an attempt to breed contempt for their fellow man of different (non)beliefs.

Ray literally runs the streets mad with rage (one for the quote-mine project)

"If you’re right about God, as you say you are, and you believe that, then how can you sleep at night? When you speak with me, you are speaking with someone who you believe is walking directly into eternal damnation, into an endless onslaught of horrendous pain which your 'loving' god created, yet you stand by and do nothing. If you believed one bit that thousands every day were falling into an eternal and unchangeable fate, you should be running the streets mad with rage at their blindness. That’s equivalent to standing on a street corner and watching every person that passes you walk blindly directly into the path of a bus and die, yet you stand idly by and do nothing . . . Imagine the horrors hell must have in store if the Bible is true. You’re just going to allow that to happen and not care about saving anyone but yourself? If you’re right, then you’re an uncaring, unemotional and purely selfish (expletive) that has no right to talk about subjects such as love and caring."

Ray claims to have gotten this in an email from an atheist. I don't believe this for a second. What a softball, slam-dunk. Why would a skeptic urge Ray to 'do something'? What atheist would encourage his brand of soaked underwear dim-wittery? Ray winds up, swings, HHHHhhhhooooommmeeee RRRRRrrrrruuunnnn!!!

"I wrote back and told him that that is what I have been doing for more than 35 years. Thousands of times I had stood up on a soapbox and made myself a fool to plead with the ungodly. I literally do run around the streets mad with rage at their blindness, and whenever I find myself being selfish and not caring for their terrible fate, I feel ashamed. And I know that I’m not alone. There are millions of Christians who are as horrified as I am, and live to reach the lost. "

Ray effectively runs around warning people of the 'buggy-man'. Now, I could have sworn I have read this exact post before....
